Olive oil
Introduced into Terre d'Argence even before the arrival of the Romans, the olive tree, a symbol of peace, has continued to prosper ever since. The numerous olive mills in the region, often open to visitors, extract from the picholine olive a fruity oil, much appreciated by connoisseurs, as is the AOC olive oil of Nîmes. Local producers (of soaps, cosmetics etc), like their brothers in the culinary arts, understand how to make full use in their products of the therapeutic, cosmetic and hygienic qualities of this oil.
In soils that have been enriched by the alluvium of the Rhône, whether covered with pebbles or sandy, vineyards are omnipresent in Terre d'Argence. The Romans developed the culture of the vine so well that, even in their day its renown spread far outside the region. Three AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) wines are produced in Terre d'Argence: Costières de Nîmes, Clairette de Bellegarde, and Côtes du Rhône. But many other wines are also worthy of flattering your palate, such as the wines of the Pays d'Oc or Pays du Gard, organic wines and the famous vins des Sables (grown in almost pure sand).
On your travels around Beaucaire – Terre d’Argence, you’ll come across many orchards full of trees heavily laden with delicious sun-kissed fruit. Peaches, pears, applies, apricots… are all used to produce heavenly fruit juices made in the region. To be enjoyed without moderation!
